“Where Residents Come First”
"Bay Vista Commons
Bay Vista Commons is a unique facility that is the first of its kind in the State of Washington . It is an affordable senior living alternative that combines Public Housing funds with Medicaid to provide top of the line service to individuals from the entire economic spectrum.
The idea for Bay Vista Commons grew our of Bremerton Housing Authority’s (BHA) quest to expand its services for seniors and create a senior campus. BHA already had a subsidized senior complex, The Firs Apartments and wanted to provide a place for its seniors to age in place. A Washington Sate Department of Social and Health Services workshop in the fall of 2002 showed the need for an assisted living project in the Bremerton area.
BHA applied for and received a Pre Development Loan/Grant through the Robert Woods Foundation Coming Home Program in the amount of $100,000. This award was used to conduct the feasibility study for the project on the site next to The Firs senior apartments. The grant was funded by the National Development Corporation.
Shortly after award, BHA conducted a search for a developer to make this dream a reality. That developer was Marathon Senior Living Services ( Marathon ). Marathon , through its strategic alliances with industry experts and consultants, provided complete development services for making Bay Vista Commons come to life.
Completed in 2007, Bay Vista Commons is the exciting first step in the redevelopment of Westpark.
Quote from Kitsap Sun, August 17, 2007:
parade of officials praised the partnerships and financing that produced
the 72-unit Bay Vista Commons. Bremerton City Councilman Will Maupin
said it was part of the city’s rebirth. “It’s a symbol that the
revitalization of Bremerton isn’t limited to the downtown part,“ Maupin
said. “It’s happening in Westpark too.”
